TCLL Volleyball Rules
The rules of the National High School Federation will be followed with the following exceptions and clarifications.
A match will consist of the first team to win two games. The first team to win two games will receive one win in the division standings, and the loser will receive one loss.
A third game will be played regardless of the outcome of the first two games in regular-season matches only. This will give an opportunity for more playing time for some players.
The first 2 games of all league and tournament matches will have a win at 25 points. The third game will be played to 15 points. A team must win by two points. There is no cap for any games.
Coaches shall have the option to allow players with limited ability in the “B” match to serve a maximum distance of 5 feet inside the end line. This is designated for underhand serves only. If a “B” player serves overhand, or any technique other than underhand, she must serve from the legal end line.
As of October 2014, schools may use any NFHS-approved balls of their choice. The home team supplies warm-up balls.
An official scorer should be provided by the home team. He/she should keep official score sheets for each game of the match.
No line judges or umpires are to be used during the regular season (As of Oct. 2013).
The visiting teams shall have adequate warm-up time on the court. There will be a 6-6-3-minute warm-up prior to all “A” and “B” matches. Both teams will serve at the same time.
See above Player Participation for application of the 4-Game Policy and additional requirements.
As of June 2010, the net height shall be 7-4¼ ft.
See above Referees and Officials for requirements. MHSAA rules will be followed regarding noisemakers and unsportsmanlike conduct.
Rally scoring and the let serve will be used beginning in 2004.
There is a maximum of 2 timeouts per team per game.
The libero position is not used in league matches due to scorekeeping complications.
As of October 2012, street shoes are not to be worn as game shoes.
